Giovanni Zaccariello Interview & What Intrigued Me About His Career

Giovanni Zaccariello is a friend of a friend, and I recently had the chance to document fresh images for his social media and dating profile 😉. (And Gio can vouch for this: I assure you, my photos will help you get dates.)

What intrigued me most about Gio, however, wasn’t just his effortless style—which, let’s be honest, is undeniably great—or his role as SVP of Visual Experience at Coach, but how he navigates the intersection of creativity, commerce, and global branding. His ability to blend visual storytelling with high-end fashion branding makes him a standout in the industry.

My curiosity was fueled even more because, years ago, I studied fashion merchandising at the Miami International University of Art & Design—though I never finished the program. Meeting someone like Giovanni, who has built a career at the highest levels of luxury branding and retail experiences, made me reflect on how creative careers evolve unexpectedly.

In this Giovanni Zaccariello interview, Gio shares insights on the future of brand experiences, the impact of visual storytelling in fashion, and what it takes to thrive in a fast-paced, ever-changing industry. Through both his leadership at Coach and his personal approach to style and branding, he continues to shape the world of high-end fashion visuals

  1. How would you describe your job as SVP of Visual Experience?

I started visual merchandising while in university by accident, and I never imagined it would take me this far. The role leading the Visual Experience at Coach is diverse due to the multiple teams that make up the group: Visual Merchandising, Production, Creative Studio, Graphic Team, Events, Runway, Digital Experience & Field Teams.

Not one day is alike, and that’s what makes the role dynamic & compelling. You truly need to love what you do to keep up. My role is a true blend of magic & logic, creativity & business savvy, left & right brain. One thing is having a big idea; the other is launching it worldwide and having millions of Gen Z consumers engage with it.

  1. What do you consider the biggest challenge in your industry today?

Consumer behaviors have changed significantly post-pandemic, and transforming our ecosystem to adapt to that—fast—was a challenge. At Coach, we pride ourselves on being glocal: global & local at the same time.

Another challenge is keeping up with the speed of the consumer. Technology has added new layers of complexity and pressure for big corporations. However, when all your projects start with consumer insights & data, you stay ahead.

  1. You’ve worked on major visual campaigns. What attributes make someone exceptional at this job?

It’s about being your authentic self, speaking your mind, and not being afraid to make mistakes. I always talk about celebrating progress over perfection—that mindset allows teams to evolve and experiment.

I believe the best new ideas are the ones that make you feel a little uncomfortable. It’s also about culture and leadership—the trust, collaboration, and safety net that allow creativity to flourish.

  1. As a creative leader, how do you balance work with New York’s fast-paced lifestyle?

I plan my balance, so that it happens. I’m a morning person—up at 5 AM daily. I start with meditation and a call with my parents in Oxford, followed by a 6 AM gym session.

For me, working out is more than just fitness—it’s mental clarity. I also love team workouts at SoulCycle, Orange Theory & Barry’s, always with a group. We lift each other up, and that’s part of my balance.

  1. Personal style is an extension of identity. How would you define yours?

Timeless. I don’t follow trends. Maybe it’s the Italian in me, but I balance classic aesthetics with an American casual twist. With all my travels, I absorb different influences, but people always say, "The Italian is here when I arrive!"

  1. What’s your go-to cocktail bar or restaurant in NYC right now?

DANTE in the West Village—also home to the best Negroni Bar. Whether it’s for a date or with friends, DANTE is always a win.

  1. You’ve worked with the biggest brands in fashion. What keeps you inspired?

Travel. I get inspired by experiencing new places—whether a different country or a new neighborhood in NYC.

I also spend time on social media, following people I admire and researching trends. And I love podcasts—either motivational in the morning or educational for continuous learning.

  1. Lastly, how important is strong visual storytelling in today’s digital-first world?

Top priority. A brand without a story is like a person without a heart.
